The Best of the Best Hotels Available in Rapid City

Finding a great hotel when you’re on a journey in Rapid City isn’t often simple, simply because you have so much choice! Of course, you can pick something out of the same Rapid City guidebook that everyone and their sister has checked for the past five years, but that doesn’t suggest you are going to have a very positive experience (in fact, it would pretty much promise a bad one!). Alternatively, it’s a smart idea to do a little bit of research, with your good friend the ‘net. Locals will invariably know the very best places to stay in their own city, what the best accommodations are, and the best occasions to hit up their favorite parts of the city. However, you do not want to go up to anyone you happen across in the airport in Rapid City, demanding their help and advice. So as a substitute, we’ve made a brief set of our 3 preferred hotels in Rapid City for you. These are the ones we would suggest to our close friends when they arrive to visit – but since we don’t want you to think we’re simply being biased, listed here are the comparisons from Yelp.com:

1. Holiday Inn Hotel Rapid City-Rushmore Plaza
505 North 5th St
Rapid City, SD 57701
(605) 348-4000
www.holidayinn.com

This hotel is about 30 minutes from all the major attractions and about 15 minutes from the airport. This appears to be the convention center for all the major conferences in the area. While we were there, we happened upon a miner’s conference. I assume these are the activities that occur out here.

The interior waterfall wasn’t functioning but I imagine that it would look pretty cool. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were on the small side. There was more than enough parking and the shuttle service looked like it was in full swing. No major problems checking in.

2. Hampton Inn of Rapid City
1720 Rapp St
Rapid City, SD 57701
(605) 348-1911

This is a nice Hampton Inn and in a pretty central location for Rapid City. The main downtown area is only a mile or two away and there is lots to walk to from the hotel…restaurants, a mall, shopping.

It’s generally pretty busy. I’d say it’s likely one of the nicer places to stay in Rapid City, SD.

- Jim W. (Los Angeles, CA)

3. Holiday Inn Express I-90
I 90 Exit 59
Rapid City, SD 57701
(605) 355-9090

- Amazing Beds
- Great hot continental breakfast with eggs, donuts, bacon, sausage patties, juice, biscuits and gravy
- Nice pool with two hot tubs and beautiful live plants
- Fairly big fitness center
- Clean, nice rooms
- Free cookies and coffee in the lobby

- Erin L. (Chicago, IL)
